Bansko is a 16th century settlement which elegantly blends the history with modern ski, golf and spa facilities. Bansko was also known as a cultural and spiritual centre. This status led residents to build a church in 1835 as a long standing symbol of Bansko's importance.
Nowadays this mountainous, historic town is located on 936m altitude with ski slopes from 1,100 – 2,500m above the sea level. The resort is located 143 km South of Sofia, at the foothills of Pirin Mountain; one of the most beautiful Bulgarian mountains which is UNESCO designated National Park. The transfer time from Sofia to Bansko is approximately 2.5 hours drive.
