Location
The town of Sandanski is situated 22 km North of Koulata (the border checkpoint with Greece), 65 km south of Blagoevgrad and 166 km south of Sofia. The area of Sandanski has the best climate in the whole of Bulgaria and if one adds up the hot mineral springs (33°-83°C) it becomes evident why the town has turned into a resort of international significance. It's location is climatically favourable offering health tourism by combining balneotherapy with climatic treatment. This is the warmest and sunniest town in Bulgaria with the least temperature variations. Throughout the year, air temperatures are higher than anywhere else in the country.

The town is known as the best natural health station in Europe for bronchial asthma. Sandanski is not only a great spa resort, but it is the host of traditional Balkan festival of movies and TV programmes for children and young people, the Bulgarian Folk Festival - "Pirin folk" in September and many other cultural events.
