Bulgaria is positioned at the top 10 places in the world to invest in for the last 5 years due to its sustainable political stability and economic growth. As a result of that Bulgaria joined the EU on 01 January 2007. Along with that, the Bulgarian government has set ambitious projects with regards to the development of the winter tourism in Bulgaria. Bansko is the first ski resort in Bulgaria attracting over €200mln of funding for improving the ski facilities, building new state-of-the art gondola lift and new ski runs.

1. Second Gondola lift is under construction and it will be completed for ski season 2008-2009
2. Expanding the ski runs in the nearby Dobrinishte village ski resorts with new ski runs and lifts integrated with Bansko’s facilities

14. The local municipality approved a budget of BGN 19 million, for 2008 for Bansko and the surrounding villages which are to be spent as follows:
    
    • BGN 12.780 million - for urbanization of Bansko. • BGN 4 million - for street improvement and reconstruction
    • BGN 1.78 million will be paid for making new pavements of 49 streets
    • BGN 1.612 million will be spending for planning
    • A General Structure Plan of the territory of Bansko is to be worked out to the amount of BGN 120,000.
    • BGN 400 000 are allocated for a Project for a Waste Water Treatment Plant. The construction of the drinking water reservoir with a capacity of 1,700 cubic meters is on the way. The facility will help for the normal functioning of hundreds of vacation buildings in the new tourist zones.
    • The amount of BGN 570,000 is for repair works of the municipal sites, such as Secondary School in Bansko, “St. Trinity” Church and the community centre.
15. During winter, Bansko offer to all winter sport lovers long and perfectly done ski tracks with total length about 65 km.
    • The ski tracks are 35 % for beginners, 40 % for intermediate and 25 % for advanced skiers and snowboarders.
    • The resort boasts 6 chair lifts, 16 tow lifts and 8 cable cars for skiers. Bansko has excellent skiing conditions with a thick snow cover from December to May. During the rest of the year Bansko offers to its visitors a perfect balance between temperature and climate – springs blossoming with unique flora, refreshing and energizing summers, and golden autumns.
